Creating a label
Follow the stages in the example below to create a label on Explore food http://explorefood.foodafactoflife.org.uk/.
1.    Open Explore food. Click ‘Go’ under ‘Calculate a recipe’.




2.  Enter the name ‘Tomato, bean and pasta soup’. Click ‘Start’.



3. Enter the following ingredients and quantities: 150g onion, 60g celery, 5g garlic clove, 11g olive oil, 800g chopped tomatoes, 190g butter beans, 50g macaroni.

4. Click ‘View summary’.


5. Change the number of portions from 1 (default) to 4. Click ‘Calculate’ to recalculate the nutritional information based on the number of portions. Then click ‘Create label’ to create a front and back of pack nutrition label.



6. Enter a title for the front of pack label. This should state the portion size that the nutrition information relates to. Enter the title ‘1/4 carton of soup contains’. Choose whether the recipe is for a food or drink. Click ‘Create label’.



7. Your food label should now appear on screen. From here you can save and print the labels. To go back to the main summary screen, press the cross icon (top, right hand side).



8. Print out and attach your labels to your food.

Background Design




Assignment Tri 1


Find a meal/snack that you eat regularly and you believe could be made healthier.
The recipe must have at least 4 different ingredients.
Adapt the ingredients of the recipe to increase it's nutritional value.
Copy the adapted recipe into GoogleDocs being sure to cite your source
Cook / make the recipe 
Take 5 photos to evidence the cooking and preparation process - It must have you in the pictures
Bring your home-made snack to class to share with your classmates.
State what adaptations you made to make the snack more healthy.

Healthy Blueberry Oatmeal Muffins







Preparation time: 15 Minutes (Let it sit for 1 Hour to firm)
Cook time: 20 Minutes
Serves: 24

Ingredients
2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
2 cup buttermilk
2 large egg, beaten lightly
1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
Canola Oil
1/2 cup applesauce
2 cup whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries



Directions
  1. In a large bowl, combine oats and buttermilk and let stand 1 hour.
  2. Preheat oven to 400°F. and butter twelve ½-cup muffin tins.
  3. Add egg, sugar, canola oil and applesauce to oat mixture, stirring until just combined.
  4. Into another large bowl, sift together flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda and add to oat mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in blueberries.
  5. Divide batter evenly among prepared muffin tins. Bake muffins in middle of oven until golden and a tester comes out clean, about 20 minutes.

If we have time--- Once you have finished all of this  calculate the calories in each serving of their chosen recipe that they are cooking. Use www.myfitnesspal.com to add each ingredient and this will generate nutritional value as well as calories.
